After an incredible weekend of wrestling at the UE Duals, Wantagh High School from Section 8 on Long Island prevailed as the tournament champions. Wantagh came into the event as the top-ranked team in NYS according to the sportswriters poll, and they proved that they belong there. Actually, the top three teams from UE all hail from Long Island. Wantagh defeated Section 11 power Sachem East in the finals and Islip, also from Section 11, defeated Section 2’s Shenendehowa for 3rd.
Section 9 was well represented having two teams finish in the top 10 of the tournament which is generally considered the unofficial dual meet state championship. Monroe Woodbury lost a close match to Section 6’s Clarence to finish 6th, while Minisink Valley was defeated by North Rockland and finished 10th.
