The 2013 SECTION 9 NEW YORK USAW YOUTH WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP & NYS KIDS FOLKSTYLE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 16at Monroe Woodbury High School. First, thanks to everyone for your patience and understanding over the last several days. The weather was not our friend, and we had to continuously react and adjust to the NYSPHSAA Section Nine Tournament changes. There is no need to re-register.
All information and guidance in the original flyer still applies except the following changes:
Weigh-in (2 locations):
Friday, Feb 15th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at both Monroe Woodbury High School and Middletown HS. It is not a problem if weight is not the same as you wrote on registration for this Section Tournament. Registration fee will also be collected at that time.
Check-in:
Saturday, Feb 16th from 7:00 am to 8:00 am
Random weight checks will be conducted. There will be a 3% weight allowance (weight class plus 3%). Wrestlers that do not make weight with the 3% allowance will be disqualified without refund of entry fee.
Wrestling will begin at approximately 8:30 am
What is meant by “It is not a problem if weight is not the same as you wrote on registration for this Section Tournament.”? Can a wrestler decide on the weight class that he wants to wrestle in at weigh ins because my son in very close to 84 but I registered him for 91 because he was a little over.
I am not personally involved in the youth tournament, however my understanding is that moving a wrestler to another weight class on the day of weigh-ins is not a problem.
That is correct Mike, we will go by the wrestlers actual weight at weigh ins and place them in the correct weight class. There will be no moving in weight classes on Saturday when we conduct spot checks. Wrestlers must be within 3% of there weigh in weight or they will be disqualified from the tournament.
