Although about half of our local teams are taking the weekend off from competition, there are still several exciting tournaments to follow including two right here in Section 9! Let’s take a look at where our locals will be battling this weekend!
New Paltz Duals
NFA went 5-0 and took home the team title! NFA junior Jaden Hansen defeated two 2019 state qualifiers (Peter Bender, Highland and Christopher Crawford, Beacon) and was selected as tournament Most Outstanding Wrestler!!!

Wrangle on the Plains
Monroe Woodbury brought 13 wrestlers to the Wrangle and had a very strong showing highlighted by Joey McGinty who placed 2nd in the 160 pound Elite pool. The Monroe Woodbury senior won his first 3 matches my major decision before dropping a 5-1 match in the finals to last year’s NYS D2 finalist Jacob Null from Dolgeville. Washingtonville was also at the tournament and had a Elite pool finalist in Andrew Marchese. The Washingtonville sophomore ripped through his first 3 matches with a pin and two techs before falling to 2X NYS state champion Stevo Poulin in the finals by a score of 18-3.
Mamaroneck Tournament
Wallkill Results ….
Wallkill finished 3rd out of 15 team today at the Tiger Invitational held at Mamaroneck HS. Individual results were as follows: Rocco Futia 3rd at 99, Matt Davis 2nd at 120, Marco Martini 6th at 126, Jerome Futia 1st at 132, Will Pushman 5th at 138, James Hubbard 5th at 152, Cael Atkins 3rd at 160, Alden Hathaway 5th at 170, Justin Lyle 2nd at 182, Chris Betcher 5th at 195, Tyrell Augustus 6th at 195 and Jackson Fakler 5th at 285.
Chester Results…
Chester placed 5th out of 15 at the Mamaroneck Tournament. They had eight kids place: Devin McGovern (285), Dylan Bullock (220) and Teddy Szymanski (195) all placed 2nd. Mark Bruckenstein (132), Bryan Sahad (152) and Cole Greco (182) placed 4th. Kwalin Gonzalez (170) & Nick Dicurcio (160) both took 6th.
Doc Davis Duals
Ellenville will take to the mat against Albany (S2), Duanesburg (S2), Warrensburg-Bolton (S2), Schuylerville-Greenwich (S2), and Our Lay of Lourdes (S1).
Woodlands Tournament
Minisink Valley crowned eight champions and had two 2nd place finishers in a dominating performance at the Woodlands. Minisink Valley senior Mia Macaluso was voted tournament MOW!!!
