After a very quiet opening weekend with only a few local teams in action, this weekend was jammed with action!!! Nearly every wrestling program in Section 9 competed at a tournament and several teams had stellar showings! Let’s take a look at the results from Weekend #2!
Tri-State Holiday Duals @ Port Jervis HS
The Port Jervis Wrestling team went 5-0 and claimed the team title. Warwick was the runner ups. The Raiders were led by Ryan Ross 5-0, Eric Tigue 5-0 and James Oosterom 5-0. Warwick’s Alex Greco, Valley Central’s Matt Romano, Goshen’s Eli Weinstein, Elijah Price, Chris Fini, Max Winkler, and Dominick Siracusa all went 5-0. Port Jervis Wrestling Head Coach Eric Hartmann picked up his 100th win.

Patriot Tournament
Kingston won the 10 team Patriot Invitational at John Jay East Fishkill High School Saturday evening. Four Tigers made the finals with three winning individual championships! Jake Chenier 126lbs, Christian Agostin-Francisco 138lbs, and Zavier Bennet 195lbs won their respective weight classes. Stephon Holmes was 2nd at 285lbs. Placing 3rd for the Tigers were Joseph Ferro 132lbs and Elijah Timbrouck 160lbs. Coming In at 4th places for Kingston were John Mera 99, Nakib Barak 106, Noah Warneke 132, Makeil Scott 138, Gavin Richter 145, Myles Gordon 152, and Tanner Mejias 170. Freshman Nick York took 5th at 182 Lbs. Jacob Chenier captured his 100th career win with a 1st period pin in his finals match.
New Paltz took 2nd place in the Patriot Tournament this weekend as well while only representing 11 out of the 15 weight classes. Championship wins were taken by Elliot Crocco at 120 lbs and Logan Michael at 182 lbs. The Huguenots also had three 2nd place finishers in Cole Cuppett at 106 lbs, Ethan Palanca at 145 lbs and Levi Wyns at 152 lbs. Capturing a 3rd place finish was Aidan Cuppett at 145 lbs and a 5th place finish by Finn Gibson.
Wallkill took 3rd in the team race and had the following placewinners: Rocco Futia 2nd @ 99, Ben Buchalter 5th @ 99, Oliver Spearman 5th @ 106, Matt Davis 2nd @ 120, Marco Martini 4th @ 126, Jerome Futia 2nd @ 132, James Hubbard 5th @ 152, Justin Lyle 2nd @ 182, Chris Betcher 4th @ 195, and Jackson Fakler 4th @ 285!
Horace Greeley Duals
Washingtonville went 4-0 and took 1st place at the 2019 Horace Greeley Duals. The undefeated wrestlers for the Wizards were Mason Ketcham, Andrew Marchese, Austin Maddox (including a win over a returning S1 finalist, Jack Baumkirschner, and Vincent Gennaro.

Ballston Spa Duals
Minisink Valley completely steamrolled the competition up at the Ballston Spa Duals going 5-0 and outscoring their opponents by a score of 360 to 39! The following Warriors finished the day a perfect 5-0: Nick Picariello, Zack Ryder, Jordan Suarez, Sean Savacool, Jaccob Gonzalez, Jace Hirsch, Ethan Gallo, Carson Henry and Adam Fenner. Red Hook had a solid showing going 2-1 in pool matches before dropping their two crossover duals and finishing 2-3 on the day.

Battle at the Beach
Monroe Woodbury crowned 2 champions and took 4th place in the team race at the very competitive Battle at the Beach at Long Beach HS in Long Island. Jordan Brown was the champion at 106 and Joe McGinty took home the title at the loaded 160 pound weight class. McGinty picked up wins over two state medal caliber opponents, Will Carano and Jeremy Scutellaro, and was awarded MOW for his efforts! Other placewinners for the Crusaders were Dan Connelly 6th at 106, Santos Ocasio 3rd @ 120, Dan Downs 5th @ 145, Marcus Brown 4th @ 170, and Frank Hernandez 3rd @ 285.
Columbia Duals
NFA went 4-1 at the Columbia Duals on Saturday! Going 5-0 for the Goldbacks were Maxx DeCapua, Joe Russell, Luke Fischer, Jackson Merli, and Kevin Segali. Jaden Hansen went 4-1 with his only loss being a 5-2 heart breaker to one of the top 113 pounders in Section 11!

Hunter Roberts was the lone placewinner for Eldred/Liberty/Sullivan West at the this year’s Clyde Cole. Roberts went 2-2 and took 4th place at 220 lbs! Brackets Here
Queen of the Mat
Fallsburg/Tri Valley will be represented at the Queen of the Mat in Copiague, Long Island. This is an all-girls tournament!
