Banach Brothers Return to Port Jervis for a Book Signing This Saturday 10/10
Ed, Lou, and Steve Banach will be back in town to sign copies of their book, Uncommon Bonds, this Saturday from 4-6 at the Erie Hotel in Port Jervis, NY. The Banach brothers graduated from Port Jervis High School and are, without question, the most decorated wrestling family in Section 9 history. Steve was a NYS placewinner and wrestled Division 1 at Clemson and Iowa. Ed and Lou were both NYS champions, NCAA champions and 1984 Olympic Gold Medalists!
Let’s have a great turnout for this event Section 9! It is not every day that you have the chance to meet an Olympic Gold Medalist in wrestling!!!
Journeymen Classic Results
Classic A Pools Classic B-E Pools
Congratulations to Connor Greiner and Kendall Elfstrum for winning their respective pools at the 2015 Journeymen Classic. Greiner, a Minisink Valley sophomore went 3-0 at 120E and notched a win over a state champion from Massachusetts. Monroe Woodbury junior Elfstrum went 3-1 and won his 182B pool via criteria by pinning his final opponent!
Evan Barczak also had a great tournament. The Crusader junior, competing in the 145B pool, went 3-0 on his side of the pool before dropping a heartbreaking 2-1 OT decision is his crossover match earning his second place honors. At 106B Monroe Woodbury freshman Marco Vespa took second place by going 2-1 with two pins.
Section 9 had two wrestlers entered into the A pools of their respective weight classes and both competitors notched victories. Minisink Valley’s AJ Aeberli finished in 6th place in the A pool at 160. The Warrior went 1-3 competing in a bracket that had three nationally ranked wrestlers. Monroe Woodbury senior Nick McShea came in 4th place at 195A and notched a victory over fellow NYS placewinner Jack Buell.
OverFlo champ Noah Curreri (Eldred/Liberty/Fallsburg) showed that he deserved to compete in the Classic. Curreri finished in 3rd place at 160C and took the eventual pool champion into SV!

Many of Section 9’s Best Preparing For the 2015 Journeymen Classic
Nearly 50 Nationally Ranked Wrestlers Registered!
For many wrestling fans, the Journeymen Classic serves as a welcomed reminder that the high school wrestling season is right around the corner! In just a few short years this event has become one of the premier high school wrestling tournaments in the nation. The 2015 Journeymen Classic will be a two-day event taking place on October 3rd and 4th at the Union College Memorial Fieldhouse in Schenectady, NY. The main event, The Classic, takes place on Sunday and will be covered by FloWrestling. Saturday’s action is known as the OverFlo Tournament. It serves as a qualifier for the Classic because the top pool winners in many of the weight classes will gain admission to Sunday’s main event!
Section 9 will be very well represented at this year’s Journeymen Classic. SectionIXWrestling will be in attendance for the event and provide up to date results for our local wrestlers. Best of luck men!

S9 Team 2-2 at Waterway Duals
Congratulations to the Orange County Warriors for going 2-2 at this weekend’s Waterway Duals in Oxford, PA. The WW Duals is one of the toughest preseason dual tournaments in the nation! Nearly every member of the OC Warriors attends Monroe Woodbury High School making them one of the few teams at the event that was, basically, a HS team. Most of the other teams at the tournament were all-star laden club teams. Special congrats to Evan Barczak, Kendall Elfstrum, and Nick McShea for finishing the day undefeated! Great job guys!!

Jeff Cuilty Newest Member of National Wrestling Hall of Fame
Congratulation to Wallkill wrestling coach Jeff Cuilty for being the most recent Section 9 coach to be selected for induction into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Cuilty will be inducted in the Upstate New York chapter on Sunday, September 20th at the Double Tree Hotel in Syracuse, NY. Coach Cuilty joins Cornwall coach Don Blaine and former Minisink Valley coach and athletic director Frank Carrozza as recent HOF inductees. Congratulations Jeff! There is nobody who is more deserving of this honor than you!

Goshen’s Fea Finishes 3rd at NUWAY Tournament
Congratulations to Goshen’s Frank Fea for finishing 3rd at 102 pounds at Saturday’s NUWAY Summer Nationals held in Long Branch, NJ. Fea, who finished 3rd at 99 pounds at last year’s Section 9 Championships, went 4-1 for the day with his only loss coming to the eventual champion! Great job Frankie!
