Section 9 Individual Rankings – December 12, 2022

102 Pounds
1. Cooper Merli (Newburgh Free Academy, 9th)
2. Charlie Wylie (Port Jervis, 9th)
3. Marco Futia (Wallkill, 9th)
4. Elijah Brown (Monroe Woodbury, 7th)
5. William Soto (Newburgh Free Academy, 8th)
This will be great weight class to follow this season. Merli and Wylie are the clear favorites at D1 and D2 respectively, however there is some great depth here! Futia dropped a razor close decision to Wylie. Brown looked great at Wrangle and Soto is going to make some noise at this weight. Sullivan from Monroe Woodbury, Vass from Valley Central, Simpson from Minisink Valley and Santiago Chrisjohn from Saugerties are all off to great starts!

110 Pounds
1. Brady Judd (Warwick, 10th)
2. Gianni Gennaro (Washingtonville, 8th)
3. Liam McCarthy (Wallkill, 10th)
4. Richard O’Lena (Port Jervis, 11th)
5. Keaton Venarchick (Cornwall, 9th)
All new names at 110 this week! Brady Judd from Warwick is our #1 followed by Washingtonville 8th grader Gennaro who is off to a great start including a pin over #4 O’Lena from Port Jervis. McCarthy from Wallkill was up 8-0 over O’Lena before falling to a defensive pin but we will go McCarthy #3 and O’Lena #4 for now. With his win by pinfall over Garret Judd, Cornwall freshman Venarchick enters the rankings at #5.

118 Pounds
1. Luke Satriano (Valley Central, 10th)
2. Wyatt Boice (Minisink Valley, 8th)
3. Marco Piazza (Monroe Woodbury, 12th)
4. Luke Dakin (FDR Hyde Park, 9th)
5. Cooper Grossi (Wallkill, 12th)
Satriano has been dominating his opponents and is the clear #1 here followed by state qualifier Boice from Minisink. Piazza from MW has been wrestling great and is our #3 followed by FDR Hyde Park freshman Luke Dakin. Wallkill senior Cooper Grossi enters the board at #5 and should not be overlooked!

126 Pounds
1. Nick Weeden (Valley Central, 12th)
2. Rocco Futia (Wallkill, 12th)
3. Matthew Mercado (Newburgh Free Academy, 10th)
4. Liam Hayes (Monroe Woodbury, 9th)
5. JoJo Uhrig (Minisink Valley, 8th)
This weight will be awesome to watch this season! Weeden was a S9 champ last year, and Futia was a state qualifier! Mercado is tough and scrappy, and we have him at #3 followed by Hayes then Uhrig who are both up a few weights from last season. Other wrestlers to keep our eyes on here are Maxim Javorsky from Monroe, Jacob Perales from Goshen, Nate Racz from Minisink Valley and Kevin Rourke from Cornwall!

132 Pounds
1. Anthony Tresch (Minisink Valley, 10th)
2. Rian Kirker (Red Hook, 12th)
3. Griffin Petzold (Warwick, 10th)
4. Viktor Banda (Wallkill, 11th)
5. Jacob Roger (Middletown, 11th)
No changes here! Tresch went out to Ironman and wrestled very tough but was 0-2. Kirker had a few losses up in Ballston Spa but remains at #2 followed by Petzold who is undefeated and has a solid 8-2 win over Cornwall’s Marco Giumarra who is a wrestler to watch here. Banda defeated Roger is a close 2-point match and they remain at #4 and #5 at 132.

138 Pounds
1. Alex Greco (Warwick, 12th)
2. Zak McKernan (Minisink Valley, 12th)
3. Richie Degon (Valley Central, 11)
4. Jayden Norris (Middletown, 12)
5. Demetrius Massey (Red Hook, 12)
No changes here either. Greco has looked great at 138 as has McKernan who competed in the Ironman. Degon, Norris, and Massey are all wrestling well and remain is the 3, 4, and 5 positions respectively.

145 Pounds
1. Jordan Brown (Monroe Woodbury, 12)
2. Luke Greiner (Minisink Valley, 11th)
3. Justin Coiteux (New Paltz, 11th)
4. Jackson Brady (Goshen, 12th)
3. Reece Greathouse (Marlboro, 11th)
The 145-pound weight class is pretty loaded! JB is buzzing through the competition, and we could possibly see him lock horns with our #2 here Greiner on Wednesday at Minisink vs Monroe at MV. Coiteux, Brady, and Greathouse have looked very sharp, and we should also watch for Blakely from Onteora who has a pin over Rizzo from Wallkill. Rizzo has a win over Jayden Norris. Also keep an eye on MV’s Zachary Filip who has yet to lose and has a nice win over Gonzalez from Saugerties who is also very tough!

152 Pounds
1. PJ Duke (Minisink Valley, 10th)
2. Cole Cuppett (New Paltz, 12th)
3. Liam Holmes (Minisink Valley, 11th)
4. George Thomas (Wallkill, 12th)
5. Michael Accardo (Warwick, 11th)
Since our last rankings, Minisink Valley sophomore PJ Duke has added a win over the #2 ranked 152 pounder in the nation, LaDarion Lockett…oh and he won the Ironman this past weekend. I guess we will keep him in our top spot for now. Cole Cuppett remains undefeated as does Duke’s teammate Holmes who finished 3rd in S9 last year. Thomas has looked great and Accardo is very solid at #5! NFA’s Kevin Segali is undefeated and is knocking on the door here as well as MW’s Mike Rosenblum and Chester’s Michael Franco!

160 Pounds
1. Tyler Reed (Cornwall, 12th)
2. Ryan Ross (Port Jervis, 11th)
3. Marco Martini (Wallkill, 12th)
4. Ibrahim Aljamal (Washingtonville, 12th)
5. Christian Hockx (Saugerties, 12th)
Tyler Reed looks very strong at 160. A second trip to the state tournament this year is likely, and he has his sights set on the medal stand! Ross is yet to wrestle but we will keep him at #2 however he can definitely get tested by our #5 Hockx from Saugerties in the D2 tournament. Martini and Aljamal are very solid at 3 and 4 and we definitely cannot look past Quinten Morgan from Minisink Valley or Brody Timm from Beacon!

172 Pounds
1. Nick Cavallo (Cornwall, 12th)
2. Joseph Ponesse (Newburgh Free Academy, 12)
3. Logan Serafin (Washingtonville, 12th)
4. Michael Loundsbury (Minisink Valley, 12th)
5. Marcus Colon (Chester, 12th)
Cavallo beat Ponesse in a dual and grabs the top spot at 172! Serafin and Loundsbury are both very tough and are very solid at #3 and #4. Colon from Chester is 2-0 and looks like one to keep an eye on! Nick Hansen from Monroe Woodbury can surprise people here and should not be overlooked!

189 Pounds

Minisink Valley junior Zack Ryder will be out for a few weeks so we will pull him for now. Zack is currently ranked #1 in the nation at 182 by FloWrestling! His teammate Andrew Filip takes over at #1 here and he earned with a great win over #2 Pennell who was a state qualifier last season. Filip wrestled at the Ironman and made it to the blood round! State qualifier Tibbs has looked great and he’s #3 followed by Liam Scott who had a nice win NFA’s Leggett who we need to keep an eye on. Shammgod from MW is off to a great start and sits at #5 and we definitely need to keep an eye on Kyle Kubik from Goshen who is a perfect 11-0 thus far!


215 Pounds
1. Ethan Gallo (Minisink Valley, 12th)
2. Matthew Oosterom (Port Jervis, 11th)
3. Gavin Furst (Cornwall, 12th)
4. Charles Batista (Our Lady of Lourdes, 12th)
5. Jayden Calloway (Beacon, 11th)
MV senior Gallo has been on fire! The 3-sport athlete didn’t take long in shaking off the rust after football season – he competed in the Ironman and placed 5th! Oosterom looks great and has yet to lose and Furst and Batista look very tough at #3 and #4. Calloway from Beacon is undefeated thus far and jumps into the rankings at #5! York from Kingston has yet to wrestle but he should be very solid here.

285 Pounds
1. Stephan Monchery (Middletown, 11th)
2. Rahmiere Bradley (Middletown, 11th)
3. Logan Ormand (New Paltz, 12th)
4. Aiden DeEntremont (Goshen, 12th)
5. Aiden Gove (Minisink Valley, 12th)
Monchery lost to a stud from Section 5 so no harm there. Top 3 remain the same and DeEntremont moves up to #4 because Batista is now at 215. MV’s Aiden Gove has only lost one match this season and it was to a defending state champion from Section 2.
