Day 2 @ Disney Duals – updated @ 6:40pm

NY Dominates South Dakota Red In Second Match; Bonneau Wins Again

Team NY Kong posted a 65-0 shutout over Team South Dakota Red during the 4:00 session.  Minisink Valley’s Josh Bonneau notched his second victory of the day in convincing fashion with an 11-3 major decision over Ryley Ostbye.  Ostbye finished 4th at the South Dakota state tournament.  Keep it up Josh…you are doing a great job representing Section 9!!!  Team NY wrestles one more match today when they take on Team Ohio Mafia at 8:00 pm.  Good luck boys!

Team New York, Bonneau Keep Rolling!

In their first of three duals today, Team New York Kong trounced Doughboy Blue from MA by a score of 64-0.  Josh Bonneau was impressive posting a 3-1 victory over Thomas Arseneault at 220 lbs.  Arsenault had a 41-2 record this year going into the state tournament before injuring his shoulder in the semifinals.  He was forced to injury default to 6th place.

Congrats Josh on another impressive victory!

Team NY and Josh Bonneau Go 2-0 on Day 1 at Disney Duals

Team NY (aka New York Kong) beat Team Kryptonite from Ohio 50-9 in their opening dual.  Minisink Valley’s Josh Bonneau earned a 4-2 victory over Sean Rutherford scoring his take down with a throw-by off his opponent’s attempted headlock.  Rutherford was favored to win a state title in Ohio this season but was upset in the quarterfinals.  He went on to reel off 4 straight pins and finished 3rd in the state.  Great win for Bonneau over a very tough opponent.

In their second dual, Team NY throttled the New Tampa Knights 44-6 where Bonneau received a victory by forfeit.

Keep it up boys!!!

Several New Yorkers Earn National Ranking

Betsy Veysman from www.newyorkwrestlingnews.com posted the below article a few days ago so I wanted to share it with those of you who missed it.  The question is not, “Who from Section 9 wants to be on this list?”  Of course everyone does…  The question is, “Are you willing to do what it takes to get your name on this list?”

Flowrestling has been posting updated high school rankings, removing wrestlers from the graduating Class of 2013 to give a glimpse of what next season could look like. Many New York grapplers made the cut, including eight state champions from February of 2013. Ward Melville’s Nick Piccininni is the highest ranked of the Empire State representatives, sitting fifth at 120 pounds.

To see which competitors have been included in the national top 20, see below:

Josh Bonneau Honored Again

Minisink Senior Will Wrestle For Team New York At Disney Duals

Two and a half years ago, Minisink Valley’s Josh Bonneau decided to give wrestling a try…for some people, it just clicks!  After a respectable junior year, Bonneau had an incredible senior campaign capped of by a 4th place finish at 220 pounds at the NYS Championships in February.  In March, Bonneau was asked to represent New York in the annual NY/NJ All-Star Charity Challenge.

Bonneau has been honored once again.  The Nassau CC bound senior has recently been asked to wrestle for Team New York for the Disney Duals, one of the premier off season dual meet events in the country.  Rather than try to convey to you how much of an honor this is, I will instead just post Team NY’s roster.  Congratulations Josh!!!

New Team 9 Wrestling Club Begins This Week at PrimoSports

PrimoSportsApproximately 10 years ago, John Degl had an idea for a wrestling club.  He wanted to create Section 1 based club that would focus on Technique Instruction, Intense Drilling, Live Wrestling, and Sport Science & Psychology.  He called the club Iowa Style Wrestling, now one of the most recognizable and successful clubs on the off-season circuit.  Andrew Lenzi, Malcolm Allen, Steven Rodriguez, Brian Realbuto, Dylan Realbuto, and Drew Longo are just a few of the state champions that have trained at Iowa Style Wrestling.

Coach Degl has decided that he would like to take the same principles that have made ISW a state champion factory, and apply them to a new club … Team 9, a wrestling school based right here in Section 9!  Team 9’s first session starts this Sunday June 16 at PrimoSports in Florida, NY.  Click on the below link to see the Team 9 Wrestling School flyer.

Are you tired of seeing Section 9 finish near the bottom at the NYS Championships in Albany?  Are you satisfied with the results of the S9 All Stars vs District 2 (PA) All Stars?  Would you like to be the next Section 9 wrestler chosen to represent Team NY at the annual NY vs NJ All Star Charity Challenge?  A goal without a course of action is nothing more than a wish.  How bad do you want it?  If you want it, go get it!!!
