Gallagher Joins 400 Win Club

Minisink Valley wrapped up their regular season with a 62-18 victory over Goshen on Monday.  Minisink Valley 62 Goshen 18  Before the match started, Minisink Valley wrestling coach Kevin Gallagher was recognized by the school district for reaching 400 wins as a head coach.  Gallagher, who notched #400 last Wednesday against Washingtonville,  joins an elite group of NYS coaches to accomplish this milestone, and Section 9 is fortunate enough to have two other coaches in the 400 club. Wallkill coach Jeff Cuilty and Cornwall coach Don Blaine both have over 400 wins – both in the NYS Wrestling Hall of Fame.  Check out some of Coach Gallagher’s coaching career highlights.

MV 182 Joey Yanis with former NYS champ and current Cornell 157 Dylan Palacio

Minisink Valley took advantage of a great opportunity to compete on a big stage on Sunday!  The Warriors were invited to take part in the high school exhibition prior to yesterday’s NCAA D1 match between Oklahoma State and Cornell by squaring off with Section 10’s Gouverneur.  After forfeiting 99 pounds, MV went on to win 13 of the remaining 14 weight classes winning the dual with a convincing 66-10 drubbing.

What To Watch For….
Now that we’re in our last full week of scheduled dual meets, I have decided to add this WTWF section to the weekly schedule…better late than never.  Tuesday’s dual at Washingtonville could give us McCormick vs. Davis @ 120 and Fekishazy vs. Martin @ 170. Wednesday has a bunch of potential marquee matches.  At MV vs Washingtonville we may see Bobe vs Ganuncio plus I am hearing that a certain coach dressed in green is going for a milestone victory.  Over in Warwick the 99 pound bout between Prokosch and Brown could have seeding implications as well as the 160 pound match-up between Ohanian vs Noble in Kingston.  A bumped up Lainez from Middletown vs Fischer from NFA could happen and Earl (MW) vs Urena (PB) may be exciting! Thursday’s dual between MW and perennial NJ power Don Bosco should be great!  There will be several swing matches but I like Stramiello vs Cawood, Barczak vs Shay, and  Elfstrum vs Acciardi as the highlights.  Friday’s highlight match will likely be Lynch vs Fea #2 at Minisink Valley.
