Wilkes University senior Kyle Diesel, a Minisink Valley graduate, took home the 184 pound title at the Monarch Invitational on Saturday.  Diesel did not surrender a single point on the day posting victories of 17-0, 15-0, 10-0, and 6-0.  Other locals placing included Brian Vutianitis (Warwick/Cortland) who placed 5th at 165, and Da’mani Burns (NFA/Cortland) who finished 6th at 141.  Minisink Valley graduate Chris Truglio reached the 141 pound quarters for Cortland before suffering an injury and medically defaulting out of the tournament.  Dan Decarlo, a Port Jervis graduate who now wrestles for Oneonta, also competed at 165 and went 0-2.  Great job men!!!

Congratulations to Pine Bush graduate Johnny Stramiello and Washingtonville graduate Sam Weinger for placing at this weekend’s Ithaca Invitational.  Stramiello, who wrestles for Ithaca College placed 5th at 125 while RIT student Weinger placed forth at 285!  Fellow S9 grads Matthew Lopez (MV) and Mark Milisci (Washingtonville) also competed and recorded wins however did not place.  Great job guys!!!

Nick McShea at Super 32 Challenge
Great job by the Monroe Woodbury senior in going 2-2 at what is arguably the toughest folkstyle tournament in the nation.  Although he fell short of placing, this experience will go a long way in helping Nick accomplish his ultimate goal – a NYS title!

Vinny Vespa at Clarion Open
The Monroe Woodbury grad who now wrestles for West Point’s prep team will see his first collegiate action at the Clarion Open!  Results below:

Garland’s UVA Squad Dominant at Clarion Open
The University of Virginia wrestling team, led by Middletown HS graduate Steve Garland, dominated the competition at the weekend’s Clarion Open.  The Cavaliers had 6 champions and placed 11 wrestlers in the top-4 of their weight!  Great job Coach Garland!

Congratulation to Monroe Woodbury junior Evan Barczak for winning the 145 pound title in the Varsity Division at this past weekend’s Freakshow Tournament held in Las Vegas!  Barczak recorded a pin, a major, and three decisions before taking the title with an impressive 11-2 major over Austin Fox from Texas in the final!  Great job and congratulations Evan!
