Mia Mac & Grace Pauls Ranked Among Top For Class of 2020

Congratulations to Minisink Valley juniors Mia Macaluso and Grace Pauls for adding to the national accolades which are filling their resumes! The Open Mat has released their list of the top 50 girl wrestlers for the class of 2020 and both Mia and Grace have made the list!!!!  Macaluso has come in at #8 while Pauls is listed at #36!  This is a huge honor and Section 9 is lucky to have them as part of our wrestling community!  Great job girls and keep working hard!

SUNY Sullivan Putting Together a Great Recruiting Class

SUNY Sullivan Head Coach Anthony Ng is attempting to build something special at SUNY Sullivan!  Along with adding John Foley to his staff recently, take a look at the recruiting class that the coaching staff has put together!  Thus far the Generals have recruited 18 student athletes from 3 states and 5 different Sections in NY!  And everyone should make sure to follow them on Instagram @Sullivanwrestling and like their Facebook page at SUNY Sullivan Generals Wrestling. Foley Joins Staff at SUNY Sullivan

Great news for our local wrestling community … the SUNY Sullivan wrestling program has added John Foley to the staff as a Volunteer Assistant Wrestling Coach! Check out the Generals Head Coach Anthony Ng’s Facebook post announcing the news!

“Huge pick up for the Generals wrestling program as John Foley officially joins our coaching staff. John will be coming on as a Volunteer Assistant Coach. He is a graduate from Port Jervis High School and was a 2x section 9 champion, finishing 6th in NYS. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Health and Physical Education while competing at Division 1 Edinboro University. It was here where he was an EWL place winner. He also graduated with a Master of Arts in Teaching Physical Education from Manhattanville College. John has 10 years of Assistant coaching experience at Port Jervis HS, where he was Assistant Coach of the year two times. This past season he was an integral part in leading Port Jervis to its first Section 9 tournament championship in over 30 years. Welcome to the fam John!!! #GeneralsWrestling “

Updated Flo Rankings – 7 New Yorkers Nationally Ranked!

Let’s take a look at the seven New York wrestlers that are currently ranked in the top 20 in the nation at their weight according to FloWrestling. Will we see any Section 9 wrestlers crack the national rankings this year???

There are two wrestlers, however, with local ties that did make the rankings.  Nic Bouzakis, son of Pine Bush graduate and 3X NYS champ Troy Bouzakis , is ranked #6 at 120. Nic wrestles for Lake Highlan Prep in Florida. JoJo Aragona is ranked 3rd in the nation at 138. JoJo wrestles for Pope John in NJ however he is from Dingmans Ferry PA which is in the Delaware Valley School District which borders Port Jervis NY.

Team USA Rosters for 2018 World Championships

Take a look at the incredible rosters for Team USA for the 2018 World Championships! This year’s championships will take place in Budapest, Hungary and the tournament will run from October 20th through October 28.  New York is very well represented with Kyle Dake (Lansing, Section 4) and Nick Gwiazdowski (Duanesburg, Section 2) both earning spots on the freestyle team.  Also having NY ties are Nahshon Garrett and Jon Jay Chavez who competed in college at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.  Let’s also give a huge “Thank You” to our good friend Matt Diano for putting this together for us!
