Team Scores Recounted…Red Hook Is New D2 Champ; Rondout Valley makes debut with 4 champs!

After a recount in the team scores….we have a new D2 champ.  Congratulations to Red Hood for capturing the team title at this Sunday’s Section 9 D2 Championships held at Rondout Valley High School.  It was originally reported that Onteora had won for the 4th consecutive year however an honest mistake was made in the team score calculations and the final team results are now: 1) Red Hook (119.5 points), 2) Onteora (114.5) and 3) Rondout Valley (91).  Host Rondout Valley, who is participating at D2 for the first time, made a huge “splash” by crowning 4 individual champions including MOW John Hodes at 126.  Click below for complete finals results!

Youth Sectional Results

The future of Section 9 wrestling was on display this past Sunday as Monroe Woodbury hosted the 2012 NYS Section 9 Youth State Qualifiers.  The top six wrestlers from each weight class receive an invitation to compete in the NYS Youth State Tournament held at Bay Shore High School on Long Island on March 3rd and 4th.

The tournament ran very smoothly thanks in part to Tim Monahan, Bob Voelker, John Zsido, Chris Sweeney, Paul Smoot, and last but not least, NYS Section 9 USA Wrestling Chairman John Stramiello.  Without the work and commitment of these people and their families, this rather complex tournament simply could not happen.  Thank you all!

Click below for complete tournament results.  Check back for information regarding a centralized S9 Youth States sign-up.  Congratulations to each and every wrestler who had the courage to “lace them up” this weekend.
