Section 9 Wrestling Individual Rankings – 1/1/2023

May be an image of 5 people and indoor
Valley Central’s Luke Satriano majors nationally ranked Raekwon Shabazz from Xavier, CT on his way to the Mid-Hudson Tournament title at 110!

What better way to start 2023 with a fresh set of individual rankings! Our wrestlers have received their 2-pound growth allowance and the holiday tournaments, namely the Mid-Hudson, have provided some clarity on some of these rankings. The next few weeks, including the Section 9 Duals and the Eastern States Classic, will provide even more! This set of rankings separates Division 1 and Division 2 wrestlers and excludes all wrestlers who are sidelined with injuries. Please feel free to contact me directly with any comments or questions at sectionixwrestling@gmail.com.

102 Pounds – Division 1
1. Cooper Merli (Newburgh Free Academy) – freshman
2. William Soto (Newburgh Free Academy) – 8th grade
3. EJ Vass (Valley Central) – 7th grade
4. Marco Futia (Wallkill) – freshman
5. Elijah Brown (Monroe Woodbury) – 7th grade

102 Pounds – Division 2
1. Charlie Wylie (Port Jervis) – freshman
2. Santiago Chrisjohn (Saugerties) – 8th grade

Comments
On the D1 side Merli keeps the #1 position with a very impressive championship performance at the Mid-Hudson. Finishing 3rd at the Mid-Hudson was Merli’s teammate Soto while Valley Central 7th grader Vass placed 5th. Vass had a 13-4 major over Futia at the Mid-Hudson. Brown had a solid 4th place finish at Massapequa. Other D1 102 pounders to watch are Sullivan from MW, Simpson from MV, and Judd from Warwick. On the D2 side Wylie is the clear favorite. She is currently undefeated and could definitely place high at the D2 state tournament in Albany. Saugerties 8th grader Chrisjohn is having a great year and is going to make some noise in February. Let’s also keep an eye on Marlboro’s Lorenzo Caserto.

110 Pounds – Division 1
1. Luke Satriano (Valley Central) – sophomore
2. Brady Judd (Warwick) – sophomore
3. Gianni Gennaro (Washingtonville) – 8th grade
4. Jordan Busby (Newburgh Free Academy) – sophomore
5. Liam McCarthy (Wallkill) – sophomore

110 Pounds – Division 2
1. Gavin Ingrassia (Saugerties) – senior
2. Richard O’Lena (Port Jervis) – junior

Comments
Luke Satriano was a buzz saw at the Mid-Hudson! He won the title with a dominating 18-4 performance over a Raekwon Shabazz from Xavier, CT. How impressive of a performance was that??? A week prior to the Mid-Hudson, Shabazz majored 2022 NYS champion Dunia Sibomana at the Beast of the East! Judd and Gennaro were idle. Busby drops to 110 for the Mid-Hudson and takes 5th while McCarthy wrestled tough but didn’t advance to Day 2 there. A few others to watch here are Keaton Venarchick from Cornwall and Logan Shultis from Kingston. In D2 Saugerties senior Gavin Ingrassia has looked great and has a first period win by pin over our #2 wrestler here, Richard O’Lena from Port Jervis.

118 Pounds – Division 1
1. Rocco Futia (Wallkill) – senior
2. Marco Piazza (Monroe Woodbury) – senior
3. Wyatt Boice (Minisink Valley) – 8th grade
4. Marco Giumarra (Cornwall) – senior
5. Cooper Grossi (Wallkill) – senior

118 Pounds – Division 2
1. Ewan Celestine (Red Hook) – sophomore
2. Savannah Tittelback (Saugerties) – sophomore

Comments
Futia drops to 118 and makes a statement with a Mid-Hudson title capped off by a first period pin in the finals! Piazza was idle. Boice looked great in winning the title in Kittatinny! Giumarra looked very good at the Mid-Hudson placing 5th including a win over our top D2 118 pounder, Ewan Celestine from Red Hook. Savannah Tittelback from Saugerties is tough! She will definitely be in the D2 hunt along with Port Jervis junior Alyssa Reed who is having a great year!

126 Pounds – Division 1
1. Nick Weeden (Valley Central) – senior
2. Matt Mercado (Newburgh Free Academy) – sophomore
3. JoJo Uhrig (Minisink Valley) – 8th grade
4. Maxim Javorsky (Monroe Woodbury) – senior
5. Liam Hayes (Monroe Woodbury) – freshman

126 Pounds – Division 2
1. Rian Kirker (Red Hook) – senior
2. Bradley Gatto (Highland) – sophomore

Comments
The 126-pound weight class is without question the most interesting weight class in Section 9 Division 1. Weeden was idle. Mercado was very impressive taking 3rd at the Mid-Hudson with a win over D2 favorite Kirker. Uhrig placed 2nd at Kittatinny while Javorsky won Massapequa and Hayes took 3rd at the same tournament! Some of the honorable mentions here are legit S9 title contenders! Racz from MV only lost to Weeden 5-4 in a dual. Rourke from Cornwall only lost 2-0 to Uhrig. Erik Martin Jr. from Middletown enters the conversation with his title up at Cooperstown including a win over Perales from Goshen who is having a great year! Let’s not forget about Banda from Wallkill who made it to Day 2 at the Mid-Hudson. The D2 side is led by the aforementioned Kirker who placed 5th at the Mid-Hudson followed by Gatto from Highland, but we can’t overlook Harrison from Port Jervis!

132 Pounds – Division 1
1. Anthony Tresch (Minisink Valley) – sophomore
2. Griffin Petzold (Warwick) – sophomore
3. Logan Pennell (Pine Bush) – sophomore
4. Jacob Roger (Middletown) – junior
5. DJ Aviles (Middletown) – freshman

132 Pound – Division 2
1. Anthony Denier (Saugerties) – senior
2. Thomas Shields (Onteora) – junior

Comments
Quite a few changes at 132 D1! Tresch places 2nd at Kittatinny with his only loss coming to nationally ranked Stanick from Roxbury, NJ and he is our top guy here. Petzold was idle but is having a really good year so he’s #2. Logan Pennell from Pine Bush has been flying under the radar a little but he’s having a really good year and is at #3 followed by Middletown teammates Roger and Aviles who both placed at Cooperstown. Goshen’s Michael Lombardi is having a solid season and should definitely not be overlooked. On the Division 2 side our #1 for this week is Anthony Denier from Saugerties. Denier is undefeated against small school opponents thus far this season and was narrowly defeated by Petzold by the score of 8-6. Shields from Onteora is having a solid season as is Cranna from Red Hook who made it to Day 2 of the Mid-Hudson.

138 Pounds – Division 1
1. Jordan Brown (Monroe Woodbury) – senior
2. Alex Greco (Warwick) – senior
3. Zak McKernan (Minisink Valley) – senior
4. Jayden Norris (Middletown) – senior
5. Jude Betancourt (Beacon) – sophomore

138 Pounds – Division 2
1. Demetrius Massey (Red Hook) – senior
2. Vance Dyke (Saugerties) – senior

Comments
This weight class will be fun to watch! JB is the definite favorite to win on the D1 side but he’s going to be tested by two other decorated wrestlers who will be looking to punch their ticket to Albany. Alex Greco is a 2X S9 champ and has placed in the state tournament. McKernan was a state qualifier last year and won two matches up in Albany. Norris from Middletown is having a great year and placed 2nd in Cooperstown while Betancourt was idle but is very solid at #5. We should also keep an eye on Caoili from Cornwall who made it to Day 2 of the Mid-Hudson. Demetrius Massey looked great at the Mid-Hudson and ended up placing 5th at the tournament. Vance Dyke from Saugerties should not be overlooked. He’s having a very solid season including a nice win over Betancourt earlier in the season.

145 Pounds – Division 1
1. Luke Greiner (Minisink Valley) – junior
2. Jackson Brady (Goshen) – senior
3. Kevin Segali (Newburgh Free Academy) – senior
4. Zack Filip (Minisink Valley) – freshman
5. Michael Rosenblum (Monroe Woodbury) – senior

145 Pounds – Division 2
1. Justin Coiteux (New Paltz) – junior
2. Reece Greathouse (Marlboro) – junior

Comments
Minisink Valley junior Luke Greiner is the definite favorite to win his 2nd Section 9 D1 title at 145 pounds! Greiner is having an awesome year and just dominated the competition on his way to the championship at the Kittatinny Tournament. Brady came in 3rd in Cooperstown with his only loss coming to a very tough kid while Segali drops to 145 for the Mid-Hudson and makes a nice run all the way to the finals. Greiner’s teammate Filip placed 3rd in Kittatinny at 152 and he’s having a very solid year including a win over our D2 #2 Greathouse from Marlboro. Rosenblum placed 2nd at Massapequa and breaks into the rankings at #5 but we can’t overlook his teammate Marcus Charlot or Wallkill’s Matt Rizzo who will both be in the hunt. In D2 Coiteux from New Paltz was a finalist at the O’Connell and is having another great season however he will definitely be pushed by Greathouse. Isaiah Hockx from Saugerties, Blakely from Onteora, Jones from Highland, and Melitski from Red Hook will all be in the mix in February!

152 Pounds – Division 1
1. Brandon Carcaterra (Monroe Woodbury) – junior
2. Liam Holmes (Minisink Valley) – junior
3. Ibrahim Aljamal (Washingtonville) – senior
4. Michael Accardo (Warwick) – junior
5. Patrick Cosgrove (Cornwall) – junior

152 Pounds – Division 2
1. Cole Cuppett (New Paltz) – senior
2. Michael Franco (Chester) – junior

Comments
With PJ Duke on the shelf, 152 becomes a wide-open weight class in Section 9 Division 1! Carcaterra is having a very good year and has a pin over Holmes from MV. Aljamal just keeps on winning and can definitely be there at the end and we should not forget about Accardo and Cosgrove who are both game. Another wrestler to watch here is Thomas from Wallkill – this will be great to watch in February! The D2 side has Cuppett from New Paltz sitting on top with an undefeated Michael Franco from Chester at #2, but we also have to watch out for Saugerties junior Jackson Bucci who is dangerous!

160 Pounds – Division 1
1. Tyler Reed (Cornwall) – senior
2. Quinten Morgan (Minisink Valley) – junior
3. Marco Martini (Wallkill) – senior
4. Isaiah Grant (Monroe Woodbury) – junior
5. Hunter Hecht (Newburgh Free Academy) – senior

160 Pounds – Division 2
1. Christian Hockx (Saugerties) – senior
2. Frankie Shaw (Burke) – junior

Comments
One of the stories to follow this year in Section 9 is the “level jump” by Tyler Reed. Although the Cornwall senior was a S9 finalist and state qualifier last year who went 2-2 in Albany, he basically flew under the radar. This year is a different story! Reed just cruised through a tough bracket at the Mid-Hudson and has many people thinking he could wind up on the top few steps of the medal stand in Albany! MV’s Morgan looked great at Kittatinny and finished 3rd while Martini, Grant, and Hecht are all definitely in the mix! Others to watch in D1 are Dan Weeden from Goshen who just placed 2nd at Cooperstown and Jai Barnett from Wallkill. In Division 2, Hockx is our #1 and is the favorite but Burke’s Frankie Shaw is still undefeated and has a win over Barnett from Wallkill! If it happens, Hockx versus Shaw could be a great match!

172 Pounds – Division 1
1. Andrew Filip (Minisink Valley) – senior
2. Nick Cavallo (Cornwall) – senior
3. Joe Ponesse (Newburgh Free Academy) – senior
4. Logan Serafin (Washingtonville) – senior
5. Michael Loundsbury (Minisink Valley) – senior

172 Pounds – Division 2
1. Marcus Colon (Chester) – senior
2. Nathan Towne (Ellenville) – senior

Comments
Minisink Valley’s Andrew Filip continues to have an awesome year! His only two losses this season were at Ironman, and he just won the title at Kittatinny with a tough win over a NJ state qualifier. Cavallo from Cornwall placed 2nd at the Mid-Hudson and had another head-to-head win over our #3, Ponesse from NFA. Serafin has yet to lose and sits at #4 while MV’s Loundsbury, who placed 2nd at Kittatinny at 190, is our #5 here. A few other to watch at 172 D1 are Annacone from Wallkill, Hansen from MW, and Lamparillo from Goshen. In D2 our #1 wrestler this week is Marcus Colon from Chester. Colon is 7-0 this year with all bonus point victories. Nathan Towne from Ellenville is our #2 but James Burns from Saugerties might be as good as anyone in D2 at this weight!

189 Pounds – Division 1
1. Braydon Pennell (Pine Bush) – senior
2. Bryson Tibbs (Middletown) – junior
3. Nick York (Kingston) – senior
4. Chris Leggett (Newburgh Free Academy) – sophomore
5. Liam Scott (Cornwall) – senior

189 Pounds – Division 2
1. Matthew Krauza (Our Lady of Lourdes) – senior
2. Maddox McCormick (Port Jervis) – sophomore

Comments
With Ryder still out with an injury, 189 D1 becomes a very interesting weight class! Pennell from Pine Bush was a state qualifier last year and his only loss this year has been to Filip so we have him at #1 but right there with him is fellow 2022 state qualifier Tibbs from Middletown who is undefeated this year and just dominated the field in Cooperstown! Nick York has only wrestled once but it was a win by fall over Leggett from NFA who just placed 3rd at the Mid-Hudson. Leggett notched a nice win at the Mid-Hudson over Scott from Cornwall who sits at #5 right now but he has Shammgod from Monroe Woodbury nipping at his heels! Kubik from Goshen is also putting together a nice season at 189. On the D2 side, Matthew Krauza from Our Lady of Lourdes is our #1 wrestler for this week! Krauza had an outstanding Mid-Hudson where he made it all the way to the finals and notched head-to-head wins over both Leggett and Scott! Krauza also has a win over PJ sophomore McCormick who is our #2 here but we can’t forget about Williams from Chester who is dangerous!

215 Pounds – Division 1
1. Ethan Gallo (Minisink Valley) – senior
2. Gavin Furst (Cornwall) – senior
3. Jayden Calloway (Beacon) – junior
4. Dante Joseph (Goshen) – senior
5. Fernand Vera (Middletown) – senior

215 Pounds – Division 2
1. Matthew Oosterom (Port Jervis) – junior
2. Charles Batista (Our Lady of Lourdes) – senior

Comments
Returning state champion Ethan Gallo is currently ranked #11 in the nation by FloWrestling and he’s our clear #1 here. Gallo’s only losses were at Ironman where he placed 5th and he just mowed through the competition at Kittatinny. Furst is having a nice season and just made it all the way to the finals at the Mid-Hudson so he’s our #2 but Calloway from Beacon is still undefeated and will contend here. Joseph from Goshen and Fernand from Middletown enter our rankings based on their solid performances at Cooperstown where they placed 3rd and 5th respectively. Oosterom is a returning state placer and has his sights set on a higher step on the medal stand in Albany. Oosterom also has a win this season over our #2 Batista from OLL who was also a state qualifier last year. Daniel Fratz from Highland, Lent from Saugerties, and Rekuc from Ellenville are all having nice season and will compete here!

285 Pounds – Division 1
1. Stephan Monchery (Middletown) – junior
2. Rahmiere Bradley (Middletown) – junior
3. Aiden DeEntremont (Goshen) – senior
4. Aiden Gove (Minisink Valley) – senior
5. Jesse Corces (Monticello) – senior

285 Pounds – Division 2
1. Logan Ormond (New Paltz) – senior
2. Luke Daniels (Red Hook) – senior

Comments
Monchery, Bradley and DeEntremont were all up at the Cooperstown Invitational. With first period pins over the other two, Monchery left no doubt about who is the top dog in Section 9 D1! Bradley and DeEntremont are still having great seasons and remain #2 and #3 but s is Gove from Minisink Valley who just placed 3rd at Kittatinny. Jesse Corces from Monticello enters the rankings this week at #5 and he is someone who should definitely watch as well as Michael Varian from Beacon and Gabriel Dayton from Cornwall. On the D2 side, Logan Ormond made it all the way to the finals at the O’Connell before dropping a tough 5-2 decision to Gabe Garibaldi who is one of the best heavyweights in D1! Daniels looked great at the Mid-Hudson and took home 4th place followed by his teammate Mark Paschal who placed 5th and is definitely one to watch here. Zane Grant from Saugerties is having a very good season and could make some noise at 285 D2 this February!

Week 4 – Holiday Tournaments

Wrestlers have now received their much appreciated 2-pound growth allowance and it’s time to get serious! This week we have several holiday tournaments and before you know it, we’ll be talking Eastern States Classic! As a scheduling note, this year’s Eastern States Classic is Friday and Saturday 1/13 and 1/14 at SUNY Sullivan. Much more to follow about that in a future post! For now, let’s look at this week’s schedule and results with the major focus being on the Mid-Hudson Tournament! The Mid-Hudson is the longest running high school wrestling tournament in NYS!

Updated Individual Rankings – Final Rankings Before the “+2” Growth Allowance

As our wrestlers anxiously wait for their favorite Christmas present of the year, a 2-pound growth allowance, I have decided to squeeze in one more set of updated individual rankings. This will also be the last rankings which combines our D1 and D2 wrestlers! After the holiday tournaments next week, we will separate our large school and small school wrestlers into separate rankings. For these rankings I will also not include any wrestlers who have yet to wrestle a match this year.

102 Pounds
1. Cooper Merli (Newburgh Free Academy, 9th)
2. Charlie Wylie (Port Jervis, 9th)
3. William Soto (Newburgh Free Academy, 8th)
4. Marco Futia (Wallkill, 9th)
5. Elijah Brown (Monroe Woodbury, 7th)
The 102 pound weight class is very deep this year! The big mover here is NFA’s William Soto who moves from #5 to #3! Soto did not defeat Futia or Brown however he did have a very impressive win over Fulton senior Freddie Pagan who is a 2X Section 3 champ who made it all the way to the blood round at the state tournament last year! And Soto didn’t just beat him, he teched him 16-1! Soto’s teammate Merli went 2-2 at the very tough Beast of the East and is still #1 here and Wylie from Port won the Cuneen Doane and stays at #2. Wallkill’s Futia’s only loss has been to Wylie so he stays at #4 with MW’s Brown right behind him at #5! VC’s Ed Vass has opened some eyes this past week with his 15-0 tech over Simpson from MV. Others to watch here are Sullivan from MW, Simpson from MV, and Chrisjohn from Saugerties.

110 Pounds
1. Brady Judd (Warwick, 10th)
2. Gianni Gennaro (Washingtonville, 8th)
3. Liam McCarthy (Wallkill, 10th)
4. Gavin Ingrassia (Saugerties, 12th)
5. Richard O’Lena (Port Jervis, 11th)
Saugerties senior Gavin Ingrassia breaks into the rankings at #4 at 110 with his first period pin over Port Jervis junior O’Lena who drops to the #5 slot. O’Lena has a head-to-head over Venarchick so the Cornwall freshman falls out of the top-5 for now. Venarchick actually had a great tournament at the Jim Wilson Duals on Saturday. He went 4-0 with four pins and earned the aggregate pin award – not bad for a kid who just started wrestling about a month ago! Warwick’s Brady Judd stays at #1. He has looked great and picked up a win over a very solid Jordan Busby from NFA up at 118. Washingtonville’s Gennaro continues to impress and stays at #2 while McCarthy from Wallkill continues to roll along and stays at #3!

118 Pounds
1. Luke Satriano (Valley Central, 10th)
2. Marco Piazza (Monroe Woodbury, 12th)
3. Wyatt Boice (Minisink Valley, 8th)
4. Luke Dakin (FDR Hyde Park, 9th)
5. Cooper Grossi (Wallkill, 12th)
The only change at 118 this week is Monroe Woodbury’s Piazza and Minisink Valley’s Boice flip-flop because Piazza topped Boice 6-5 at the MV vs MW dual meet. Valley Central’s Satriano notched an 11-0 major over Boice and continues to dominate and stays in the top spot! FDR’s Dakin has been idle but is having a solid year and remains at #4 followed by Wallkill’s Grossi at #5. A few others to watch for here are Busby from NFA and Tittleback from Saugerties!

126 Pounds
1. Nick Weeden (Valley Central, 12th)
2. Rocco Futia (Wallkill, 12th)
3. Matthew Mercado (Newburgh Free Academy, 10th)
4. JoJo Uhrig (Minisink Valley, 8th)
5. Liam Hayes (Monroe Woodbury, 9th)
No changes in the top-3 at 126 but MV’s JoJo Uhrig topped MW’s Liam Hayes 8-5 in a very exciting match at the MV vs MW dual meet so Uhrig is now #4 and Hayes is at #5. Returning S9 champ Weeden from VC holds on to the top spot but he was tested by MV’s Nate Racz whom he narrowly defeated 5-4 during the MV vs VC dual. We should definitely keep an eye on Racz. Futia and Mercado are solid at #2 and #3 here. Other wrestlers to keep our eyes on at 132 are Maxim Javorsky from Monroe, Jacob Perales from Goshen, and Kevin Rourke from Cornwall!

132 Pounds
1. Anthony Tresch (Minisink Valley, 10th)
2. Rian Kirker (Red Hook, 12th)
3. Griffin Petzold (Warwick, 10th)
4. Viktor Banda (Wallkill, 11th)
5. Daniel Aviles (Middletown, 9th)
Middletown freshman Daniel Aviles enters the rankings at 132 at #5 this week. He has an excellent 13-4 record and has notched a win by pinfall over a very tough Javorsky from Monroe Woodbury. Javorsky pinned Aviles earlier this season. Tresh keeps rolling at remains our top wrestler here as his only losses were at Ironman. Tresch is followed by D2 hammer Kirker from Red Hook who is a solid #2. Warwick’s Petzold stays #3 followed by Banda from Wallkill at #4. Cornwall’s Marco Giumarra and Goshen’s Michael Lombardi are having very good seasons and should not be overlooked here!

138 Pounds
1. Alex Greco (Warwick, 12th)
2. Zak McKernan (Minisink Valley, 12th)
3. Jayden Norris (Middletown, 12th)
4. Demetrius Massey (Red Hook, 12th)
5. Vance Dyke (Saugerties, 12th)
Two-time Section 9 champ Greco remains our #1 but MV’s McKernan is looking great and is a very formidable #2 at 138. McKernan had a very impressive 11-4 win at the Jim Wilson Duals over a very highly regarded Luke Nieto from Plainedge. VC’s Degon has yet to wrestle so we drop him for now which slides Middletown’s Norris up to #3 and Red Hook’s Massey up to #4. Taking over our #5 spot at 138 is Saugerties senior Vance Dyke who is having a great season including a win over Beacon’s Jude Betancourt who should not be overlooked!

145 Pounds
1. Jordan Brown (Monroe Woodbury, 12)
2. Luke Greiner (Minisink Valley, 11th)
3. Justin Coiteux (New Paltz, 11th)
4. Jackson Brady (Goshen, 12th)
5. Zachary Filip (Minisink Valley, 9th)
Our top two ranked wrestlers locked horns at the MW vs MV dual, and it was MW senior Jordan Brown coming away with the 5-2 decision over MV’s Luke Greiner, so they remain #1 and #2 respectively. Coiteux from New Paltz is looking tough and he stays at #3 followed by Goshen senior Brady who is 12-1 on the season thus far. By virtue of his win over Marlboro’s Reese Greathouse, our new #5 at 145 is MV freshman Zachary Filip. Filip has yet to lose this season and is improving every match! Greathouse shouldn’t be overlooked and could wind up seeing Coiteux in the D2 S9 finals this year!

152 Pounds
1. Cole Cuppett (New Paltz, 12th)
2. Brandon Carcaterra (Monroe Woodbury, 11th)
3. Kevin Segali (Newburgh Free Academy, 12th)
4. Liam Holmes (Minisink Valley, 11th)
5. Ibrahim Aljamal (Washingtonville, 12th)
Minisink Valley’s PJ Duke is the clear #1 here…he likely #1 in the nation at this weight! But Duke is injured so we will pull him from the rankings for now making New Paltz senior Cole Cuppett our new #1 at 152. Carcaterra from MW is our new #2 by virtue of his first period pin over Holmes from Minisink who slides down to #4. NFA senior Segali is having a great year including a win of Accardo from Warwick, so we have Segali at #3 and have Accardo as HM. Washingtonville’s Ibrahim Aljamal is undefeated and is now at 152 so we have him at #5 here. Wallkill’s Thomas is at HM and could definitely find himself back in the top 5. This will be a great weight class to follow in February. Let’s not forget about Chester’s Michael Franco or Carcaterra’s teammate Rosenblum …both are very solid!

160 Pounds
1. Tyler Reed (Cornwall, 12th)
2. Marco Martini (Wallkill, 12th)
3. Quinten Morgan (Minisink Valley, 11th)
4. Christian Hockx (Saugerties, 12th)
5. Isaiah Grant (Monroe Woodbury, 11th)
Reed just looks better and better every week! Don’t be surprised if we see him very high on the podium in Albany in February. Ross has yet to wrestle this season, so we’ll drop him from the ranking for now making Marco Martini from Wallkill our new #2. MV junior Quinten Morgan has looked very tough at 160 and he’s our new #3 followed by Saugerties Senior Hockx who sits at #4. The final spot at 160 was pretty wide open but we’ll give it to MW junior Isaiah Grant who is having a very solid season for the Crusaders. Frankie Shaw from Burke, Jonathan Melitski from Red Hook, and Brody Timm from Beacon are all having good years and will definitely be in the hunt this year!

172 Pounds
1. Andrew Filip (Minisink Valley, 12th)
2. Nick Cavallo (Cornwall, 12th)
3. Joseph Ponesse (Newburgh Free Academy, 12)
4. Logan Serafin (Washingtonville, 12th)
5. Michael Loundsbury (Minisink Valley, 12th)
MV’s Filip, who finished 4th in NYS at 189 last year, makes the cut to 172 and is our new #1 here. Cavallo is having a great year and is at #2 right ahead of NFA’s Ponesse who is at #3 and Washingtonville’s Serafin who is at #4. Filip’s teammate Michael Loundsbury is our #5 here but right behind him is Chester’s Marcus Colon who will be a force to reckon with at this year’s D2 tournament! Another wrestler to watch here is MW’s Nick Hansen.

189 Pounds
1. Braydon Pennell (Pine Bush, 12th)
2. Bryson Tibbs (Middletown, 11th)
3. Liam Scott (Cornwall, 12)
4. Nick York (Kingston, 12)
5. Eryk Shammgod (Monroe Woodbury, 12th)
With Ryder still out with an injury and Filip down at 172, Pine Bush senior Brayden Pennell is our new #1 at 189. Pennell was a state qualifier at this weight last year and definitely has the potential to get to the medal stand in Albany this year. Fellow state qualifier Tibbs from Middletown is having a great year and sits at #2 followed Scott from Cornwall who sits at #3. Kingston’s Nick York hit the mat for the first time this year and enters our rankings at #4 followed by MW senior Eryk Shammgod. We need to keep an eye on Jai Barnett from Wallkill who just handed Goshen’s Kyle Kubik his first loss of the season. Both are having great seasons thus far as is Chris Leggett from NFA and Matt Krauza from Our Lady of Lourdes.

215 Pounds
1. Ethan Gallo (Minisink Valley, 12th)
2. Matthew Oosterom (Port Jervis, 11th)
3. Gavin Furst (Cornwall, 12th)
4. Charles Batista (Our Lady of Lourdes, 12th)
5. Jayden Calloway (Beacon, 11th)
Defending state champion Ethan Gallo from Minisink Valley is the clear top dog here at 215! Gallo’s only losses have been at Ironman to nationally ranked wrestlers. Gallo placed 5th at the Ironman. State placer Oosterom has looked great and just recorded a pin over Batista. He is very solid at #2 followed by Cornwall senior Furst who is at #3. State qualifier Batista from Our Lady of Lourdes is having a great year and he’s at #4 followed by Calloway from Beacon who is undefeated with every win being either a pin or a forfeit!

285 Pounds
1. Stephan Monchery (Middletown, 11th)
2. Rahmiere Bradley (Middletown, 11th)
3. Logan Ormond (New Paltz, 12th)
4. Aiden DeEntremont (Goshen, 12th)
5. Aiden Gove (Minisink Valley, 12th)
Monchery won the title at the Thomas Chickanis Memorial with a pin in the finals over Hotaling from Colonie who is the top ranked heavyweight in S2 D1. Monchery’s teammate Bradley, a 2022 state qualifier, finished 3rd at the Chackanis with his only loss coming to Hotaling. He is our #2 at 285 followed by New Paltz senior Logan Ormond who is looking great this year. Goshen’s Aiden DeEntremont is undefeated this year and is a strong #4 followed by Aiden Gove from MV whose only two losses this year are to a defending state champ from Section 2 and a 2-1 loss to the top ranked heavyweight in Nassau County!

3. Marco Futia (Wallkill, 9th)
4. Elijah Brown (Monroe Woodbury, 7th)
5. William Soto (Newburgh Free Academy, 8th)
This will be great weight class to follow this season. Merli and Wylie are the clear favorites at D1 and D2 respectively, however there is some great depth here! Futia dropped a razor close decision to Wylie. Brown looked great at Wrangle and Soto is going to make some noise at this weight. Sullivan from Monroe Woodbury, Vass from Valley Central, Simpson from Minisink Valley and Santiago Chrisjohn from Saugerties are all off to great starts!

110 Pounds
1. Brady Judd (Warwick, 10th)
2. Gianni Gennaro (Washingtonville, 8th)
3. Liam McCarthy (Wallkill, 10th)
4. Richard O’Lena (Port Jervis, 11th)
5. Keaton Venarchick (Cornwall, 9th)
All new names at 110 this week! Brady Judd from Warwick is our #1 followed by Washingtonville 8th grader Gennaro who is off to a great start including a pin over #4 O’Lena from Port Jervis. McCarthy from Wallkill was up 8-0 over O’Lena before falling to a defensive pin but we will go McCarthy #3 and O’Lena #4 for now. 118 Pounds
1. Luke Satriano (Valley Central, 10th)
2. Wyatt Boice (Minisink Valley, 8th)
3. Marco Piazza (Monroe Woodbury, 12th)
4. Luke Dakin (FDR Hyde Park, 9th)
5. Cooper Grossi (Wallkill, 12th)
Satriano has been dominating his opponents and is the clear #1 here followed by state qualifier Boice from Minisink. Piazza from MW has been wrestling great and is our #3 followed by FDR Hyde Park freshman Luke Dakin. Wallkill senior Cooper Grossi enters the board at #5 and should not be overlooked!

126 Pounds
1. Nick Weeden (Valley Central, 12th)
2. Rocco Futia (Wallkill, 12th)
3. Matthew Mercado (Newburgh Free Academy, 10th)
4. Liam Hayes (Monroe Woodbury, 9th)
5. JoJo Uhrig (Minisink Valley, 8th)
This weight will be awesome to watch this season! Weeden was a S9 champ last year, and Futia was a state qualifier! Mercado is tough and scrappy, and we have him at #3 followed by Hayes then Uhrig who are both up a few weights from last season. Other wrestlers to keep our eyes on here are Maxim Javorsky from Monroe, Jacob Perales from Goshen, Nate Racz from Minisink Valley and Kevin Rourke from Cornwall!

132 Pounds
1. Anthony Tresch (Minisink Valley, 10th)
2. Rian Kirker (Red Hook, 12th)
3. Griffin Petzold (Warwick, 10th)
4. Viktor Banda (Wallkill, 11th)
5. Jacob Roger (Middletown, 11th)
No changes here! Tresch went out to Ironman and wrestled very tough but was 0-2. 2. Zak McKernan (Minisink Valley, 12th)
3. Richie Degon (Valley Central, 11)
4. Jayden Norris (Middletown, 12)
5. Demetrius Massey (Red Hook, 12)
No changes here either. Greco has looked great at 138 as has McKernan who competed in the Ironman. Degon, Norris, and Massey are all wrestling well and remain is the 3, 4, and 5 positions respectively.

145 Pounds
1. Jordan Brown (Monroe Woodbury, 12)
2. Luke Greiner (Minisink Valley, 11th)
3. Justin Coiteux (New Paltz, 11th)
4. Jackson Brady (Goshen, 12th)
3. Reece Greathouse (Marlboro, 11th)
The 145-pound weight class is pretty loaded! JB is buzzing through the competition, and we could possibly see him lock horns with our #2 here Greiner on Wednesday at Minisink vs Monroe at MV. Coiteux, Brady, and Greathouse have looked very sharp, and we should also watch for Blakely from Onteora who has a pin over Rizzo from Wallkill. Rizzo has a win over Jayden Norris. Also keep an eye on MV’s Zachary Filip who has yet to lose and has a nice win over Gonzalez from Saugerties who is also very tough!

152 Pounds
1. PJ Duke (Minisink Valley, 10th)
2. Cole Cuppett (New Paltz, 12th)
3. Liam Holmes (Minisink Valley, 11th)
4. George Thomas (Wallkill, 12th)
5. Michael Accardo (Warwick, 11th)
Since our last rankings, Minisink Valley sophomore PJ Duke has added a win over the #2 ranked 152 pounder in the nation, LaDarion Lockett…oh and he won the Ironman this past weekend. I guess we will keep him in our top spot for now. Cole Cuppett remains undefeated as does Duke’s teammate Holmes who finished 3rd in S9 last year. Thomas has looked great and Accardo is very solid at #5! NFA’s Kevin Segali is undefeated and is knocking on the door here as well as MW’s Mike Rosenblum and Chester’s Michael Franco!

160 Pounds
1. Tyler Reed (Cornwall, 12th)
2. Ryan Ross (Port Jervis, 11th)
3. Marco Martini (Wallkill, 12th)
4. Ibrahim Aljamal (Washingtonville, 12th)
5. Christian Hockx (Saugerties, 12th)
Tyler Reed looks very strong at 160. A second trip to the state tournament this year is likely, and he has his sights set on the medal stand! Ross is yet to wrestle but we will keep him at #2 however he can definitely get tested by our #5 Hockx from Saugerties in the D2 tournament. Martini and Aljamal are very solid at 3 and 4 and we definitely cannot look past Quinten Morgan from Minisink Valley or Brody Timm from Beacon!

172 Pounds
1. Nick Cavallo (Cornwall, 12th)
2. Joseph Ponesse (Newburgh Free Academy, 12)
3. Logan Serafin (Washingtonville, 12th)

3. Bryson Tibbs (Middletown, 11th)

Minisink Valley junior Zack Ryder will be out for a few weeks so we will pull him for now. Zack is currently ranked #1 in the nation at 182 by FloWrestling! His teammate Andrew Filip takes over at #1 here and he earned with a great win over #2 Pennell who was a state qualifier last season. Filip wrestled at the Ironman and made it to the blood round! State qualifier Tibbs has looked great and he’s #3 followed by Liam Scott who had a nice win NFA’s Leggett who we need to keep an eye on. Shammgod from MW is off to a great start and sits at #5 and we definitely need to keep an eye on Kyle Kubik from Goshen who is a perfect 11-0 thus far!

215 Pounds
1. Ethan Gallo (Minisink Valley, 12th)
2. Matthew Oosterom (Port Jervis, 11th)
3. Gavin Furst (Cornwall, 12th)
4. Charles Batista (Our Lady of Lourdes, 12th)
5. Jayden Calloway (Beacon, 11th)
MV senior Gallo has been on fire! The 3-sport athlete didn’t take long in shaking off the rust after football season – he competed in the Ironman and placed 5th! Oosterom looks great and has yet to lose and Furst and Batista look very tough at #3 and #4. Calloway from Beacon is undefeated thus far and jumps into the rankings at #5! York from Kingston has yet to wrestle but he should be very solid here.

285 Pounds
1. Stephan Monchery (Middletown, 11th)
2. Rahmiere Bradley (Middletown, 11th)
3. Logan Ormand (New Paltz, 12th)

5. Aiden Gove (Minisink Valley, 12th)
Monchery lost to a stud from Section 5 so no harm there. Top 3 remain the same and DeEntremont moves up to #4 because Batista is now at 215. MV’s Aiden Gove has only lost one match this season and it was to a defending state champion from Section 2.
