The Crusaders cruised to the team title crowning 5 champions outpacing second place Newtown by a 277-185 margin!  Marco Vespa (99), Vinny Vespa (120), Evan Barczak (132), Marcello Gennaro (182), and Nick McShea (195) took home individual titles for Monroe!  Matt Bracco (138), Brandon Lewis (152), Andrew Tully (160), Kendall Elfstrum (170), and Celle Mazzamuto (285) finished second for the crusaders while Kevin Kelly took third at 126.

Rondout Valley, Cornwall, Monroe Woodbury, Goshen, and Tri-Valley @ Rondout Duals
Monroe Woodbury won the Rondout Duals defeating Arlington in the finals.  Oneonta defeated Goshen For 3rd place.  Also competing was Cornwall, LaSalle Institute, Ausable Valley, Tri-Valley and Rondout Valley.  Congratulations to Monroe Woodbury’s Nick McShea for recording his 100th victory

MV, Middletown, Monticello, Onteora, PJ, and RH @ Gene Brigham at Minisink Valley Invitational
Host Minisink Valley crowned 6 champs en route to capturing the Gene Brigham Invitational.  The Warriors edged a very tough Newtown, CT by 3 points to win the team title.  Minisink title winners were Jarred Greiner (99), Connor Greiner (106), Gerard Daly (120), Chris Truglio (138), Mike Raccioppi (145), and AJ Aeberlie (160). Deonte Moore dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Smithtown West’s Lantz Lange to finish 2nd at 182.  Gerard Daly was voted MOW while Connor Greiner won the aggregate pin award (3 pins in 1:36).

Middletown finished 3rd as a team and had three finalists.  Pedro Rosales came in 2nd at 113. Christian Matos finished 2nd at 160 (med. fft.), and Joe Humphrey had to injury default (inj. time) to Wallkill’s Brandon Mascaro at 220 due to a cut near his eye.  Red Hook also finished in the top 7 and had a champion and 2 other finalists.  Travis Coon was the 285 pound champion while Taylor Benson came in 2nd at 126 and Darren Coon was the runner up at 195.

Washingtonville took 1st place at the Wizard Duals. Vincent Giacoio (5-0 @160lbs), Chris Martin (4-0 @170lbs), Bruce McLee (5-0 @182/195lbs), Keyon Milner (4-0 @182/195lbs) and Bryan Beyers (5-0 @220lbs) all were undefeated on the day.

Minisink Continues To Roll at Shenendehowa Invitational          Brackets
Minisink Valley had 8 finalists and crowned 3 champions at the Shenendehowa Invitational.  The Warriors won the team race with 201.5 points outpacing runner up John Jay EF by over 100 points. Gerard Daly (120), Chris Truglio (138), and Michael Raccioppi (145) won their weights while Jarred Greiner (99), Connor Greiner (106), Matt Lopez (126), AJ Aeberli (160), and Nick Wentland (170) finished second.  Aeberli’s loss was a 3-1 sv decision to Alex Herringshaw – a defending state champ who is currently ranked #2 in NYS at 160 lbs.  Tyler Mayo (132) and Deonte Moore (182) finished 3rd.

Newburgh Free Academy was also at the Shenendehowa Invitational.  The Goldbacks came in 4th as a team and Da’mani Burns cruised through the 132 pound bracket with 4 pins!  Heavyweight Issac Serrano finshed 3rd while Greg Fischer (99) and Tyler Dellatore (106) finished 4th.

Travis Kelly 182lb won his weight class.  Ben Ulrich 138lb and Brian Stickle 220lb each placed 2nd.  Patrick Owens 106lb, Michael LaRuffa 132lb, Frank Smith 220lb each placed 3rd.  Caleb McCallion 120lb, Jonah Lilley 145lb, Isaiah Mathis 285lb each placed 5th.

College Results
SUNY Sullivan’s Dylan Booth (Port Jervis) and Richard Dennison (Minisink Valley), as well as Wilkes’ Kyle Diesel (Minisink Valley) grab titles at 2015 Will Abele Tournament.

SUNY Oneonta freshman James Bethel (Saugerties) pinned his way through the bracket to claim the 285 pond title at the ECWC Championships.  Bethel’s opponent in the finals, Cole Tristram form Brockport, was ranked 10th in the nation in the latest DIII poll.  Bethel pinned him in 3:59!  Congrats James.

Prep Notes
Pine Bush graduate Johnny Stramiello, now doing a post-grad year at national prep powerhouse Wyoming Seminary, went 3-1 today at the NMH Duals in Massachusetts.  Stramiello, who typically enters open college tournaments at 125 pounds, wrestled up at 132 and 138 for the event.

Middletown finished 2nd out of 16 teams at the 34th Stan Elinsky Tournament in Deposit. Deposit won the tournament with 206 points to Middletown’s 198.5.

Saugerties finished 7th out of 17 teams and had several place in the top 6.  Placing for Saugerties were Costello (4th @ 99), Pulver (2nd @ 133), Everly (3rd @ 120), Skalla (5th @ 138), Bucci (3rd @ 145), Dennis (6th @ 182), and Donah (5th @ 220).  Well done boys!!!

Liberty’s Kevin Morgans dropped a hard-fought 5-3 decision to Unatego’s Ryan Marzsal in the finals to take 2nd place at 182.  Marzsal is currently ranked #1 in NYS at 182!  Great job Kevin!!!  Also placing for ELF was Noah Curreri who finished 6th at 145 pounds.  Nice job both guys!

Wallkill Wins Team Title at Mid-Hudson Tournament @ Arlington HS
Wallkill edged Longwood by one point to capture the team title at the 2014 Mid-Hudson Tournament.  The Panthers had 8 wrestlers place in the top 6 and were led by 99 pound champion Andrew Davis and 182 pound champion Mike Fekishazy who was also named sophomore MOW! Several Section 9 teams finished in the top 10 including Valley Central 4th, NFA, 5th, Saugerties 6th, Cornwall 7th, and Pine Bush 9th.

The Warriors, wrestling without 138 pounder Chris Truglio, completely dominated the competition outscoring the second place team by more than 50 points!  Minisink had 7 finalists and crowned 6 champions.  Taking home titles for MV were Connor Greiner (106), Gerard Daly (126), Tyler Mayo (132), Mike Raccioppi (145), AJ Aeberlie (160), and Deonte Moore (182).  Other place winners for the Warriors included Nick Wentland (170) who finished 2nd, Tom Daly (113) took 3rd, Matt Lopez (120) finished 3rd, Andrew Slagle (195) took 4th, and Braxton Robertson (220) also finished 4th!  Minisink Valley Results

The Crusaders dominated the field at Massapequa taking home 4 individual titles and placing 10 wrestlers in the top 4 of their weight.  MW champions included Kevin Kelly (120), Vinny Vespa (126), Evan Barczak (132), and Nick McShea (195).  McShea also won the award for the most pins in the least amount of time with 3 pins in 8:44.  Other top 4 placers for the Crusaders were Marco Vespa (2nd @ 99), Rob Ricci (4th @ 106), Josh Cordero (4th @ 160), Kendall Elfstrum (2nd @ 170), Marcello Gennaro (3rd @ 182), and Cellestino Massamuto (4th @ 285).

The Middies decided to sit the wrestlers who will be competing at the Eastern States Classic in a few weeks and give some of their younger guys a little mat time at the Somers Tournament.  They had a solid performance finishing 4th as a team and placing 8 wrestlers in the top-4.  Middie place winners were Rajpaul (3rd @ 113), Alicea (3rd @ 120), Delvalle (2nd @ 160), Robledo (4th @ 170), Green (2nd @ 182), Duke (3rd @ 182), Martinez (3rd @ 195), Gipson (3rd @ 285).
