Updated Rankings; Huge Matches This Week

With a relatively quiet week of wrestling, the Section 9 Wrestling rankings did not change much….definitely not the case this week!!!  Below is a printer friendy version of the entire slate of action in Section 9 this week.  One of the marquee matches occurs on Wednesday when Warwick travels to Monroe Woodbury to take on the Crusaders.   Monroe would like to avenge its early season one-point loss to Warwick when the two teams met in the finals of the Section 9 Duals.  The other highly anticipated match is Friday’s showdown between Minisink Valley and Warwick.  Year after year, this dual meet proves to be one of the most intense and hotly-contested matches of the season.  This year should prove to be no different.  Monroe Woodbury, Warwick, and Minisink Valley are all ranked in the top 20 in New York State.

Weekend Tourneys

After a relatively quiet week of wrestling, we are happy to announce that there are some outstanding tournaments coming up this weekend involving quite a few local teams.  Most notably, NFA is hosting the Newburgh Duals on Saturday.  This all-day, two-gymnasium tournament will showcase local teams NFA, Kingston, Port Jervis, and Warwick Valley.  Also participating are Arlington, Chaminade, Hauppauge, Port Chester, Cold Spring Harbor, and Shoreham Wading River.  Click below for a complete tourament schedule.

The very competitive Big Ten Tournament also takes place this weekend up in Albany.  Section 9 will be well repesented by both Middletown and Pine Bush.  Best of luck to all Section 9 teams this weekend.   Section 9 Championships are just a few weeks away!!!

Rankings #8….Quiet Week Ahead

Section 9’s tournament-packed weekend had an impact on this week’s rankings.  We had a “shake-up” at 120, 182, 195, and 220.  The week ahead will have only a limited schedule due to NYS Regents exams.  Click below for a complete schedule.

Weekend Summary

Before I begin to summarize a busy weekend in Section 9 wrestling, I would like to first congratulate NFA’s Johnny Bastone and Roundout Valley’s Ian Morse who both recorded their 100th career victory this weekend.  Bastone earned his milestone with a victory via technical fall versus Ellenville at the Highland Duals while Morse got his 100th win in the quarter-finals of the Gene Brigham Invitational at Minsink Valley.  I would also like to offer congratulations to Washingtonville’s Colin Casey who became his school’s all-time wins leader by recording his 136th career victory en route to earning the 170 pound title at the Beacon Tournament.  Great job guys!

Gene Brigham Invitational @ Minisink Valley:  Host Minsink Valley crowned three champions and edged out Section 11 power Longwood 183-181.5 to take the team title at 2012 Gene Brigham Memorial Wrestling Tournament.  Earning individual titles for Section 9 were Michael Raccioppi (MV, 106), Mason Rambrose (MV, 113), John Hodes (RV, 120), Donald Brown (Middletown, 126), Anthony Sannella (MV, 182), Vinny Nastro (Goshen, 195), and Alex Ortiz (Middletown, 220).  Click below for finals results, awards, and top-5 team standings.
